Teeth Bleaching

By

Everyone wishes they could look in the mirror and see a smile radiating from the dazzle of white, shiny teeth. Unfortunately, many who look for that reflection are greeted with teeth that are discolored and dull. Teeth bleaching is one method that will bring back a smile to be proud of. White teeth and confidence go hand-in-hand because if you feel confident that your smile is showing off pearly white teeth, you will naturally feel more positive about presenting yourself to friends and business associates. More and more people are turning to teeth whitening kits and bleaching their teeth because they are so readily available. Typically the ingredients used in a bleaching product are hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

This treatment is for men and women and is an affordable, effective way to have whiter teeth in a very short time. It can be done by a professional or in the comfort of your home. If you choose to have your teeth professionally whitened, then it might cost more for a teeth bleaching treatment, but it is probably the most effective and fastest way to go. When performed in a dental office, the procedure only takes minutes. Bleaching teeth at home takes more of your time, as much as an hour, It is, however, far less expensive than having it done in an office setting. At home bleaching kits can be purchased in most pharmacies as well as discount departments stores.

There are many reasons why the teeth we had as children sometimes turn dull and discolored. Tooth enamel is designed to last a lifetime but use and abuse reeks havoc on enamel and the side effects can lead to cavities, gum disease and less than attractive discoloration. Years of chewing, mistreatment and over indulgence of sweets can lead to the enamel eroding and breaking down causing yellowing, which is really a tooth's original color because it is made of dentin. When the enamel is destroyed, teeth can stain and rot because of cracks in the enamel, resulting in a less than attractive appearance. Stains will appear on the surface as well as inside the teeth. Those on the surface are usually caused by foods, drinks and smoking; while those on the inside are brought on by trauma to the tooth or teeth or excessive treatments with drugs like tetracycline.

Teeth bleaching works on both inner and outer stains if done properly. If the stains are resistant to home whitening products then consulting a dentist should be considered to correct the problem. Once the teeth are whitened, then home bleaching can be carried out to maintain the results achieved from the dentist. The results vary depending on the depth and color of the stain. Successful results can be achieved in minutes in a dentist's office because the bleach used in stronger than that of take home or over the counter products that can take an hour or more.

There is a correlation between age and the degree of staining. It makes sense to realize that the younger a candidate is, the sooner whitening results will occur with more than satisfying results. Since most children do not have discoloration problems (except those on massive doses of tetracycline), the average ages of those seeking treatments are teens to older adults. Teens have the most amazing results because they are generally the youngest set to undergo bleaching treatments. Still there are relatively few complaints from anyone who has tried a treatment no matter what their age.

The quickest and best results are often times achieved in a dental office; however, whitening kits that can be purchased and taken home from dental offices are also available, and are often times used by the dentist as follow-up treatment. These dental office take home kits are less expensive than having the dentist's do it but more expensive than picking up a kit in the local drug store. Kits that can be purchased in pharmacies and other health related commercial stores are available in a variety of brands with a variety of instructions for use. They are by far the least expensive of the three methods described but take the longest to produce satisfying results.
