Often people begin their fitness programs and find that their program is one sided or incomplete. A well rounded regime is one that considers all areas of fitness. Diet, nutrition, tightening and toning, as well as burning unwanted fat and calories are all important when trying to transform the body. Muscle tone can make the body look more shapely and fit. Losing the weight is good, however it won't shape the body as well as weight lifting can. Over the years weight lifting machines have become very popular, however using free weights is still one of the best methods for building muscle. Free weights is a term that refers to a weight, that is not attached to a machine of some sort and is lifted and lowered by the power of your own hands and arms. An example of this type of weight is a dumbbell or barbell.

Weight lifting is great for building muscle mass, which is great for anyone male or female. Men are not the only people who can benefit from weight training. Women who weight train can see a variety of health benefits. Developing muscle can help the body to burn more fat and calories even when the body is at rest. Weight lifting can help to increase bone density which is great because women lose bone density as they age. This particular method of exercise prevents osteoporosis and helps to strengthen the body. It also builds muscle mass which is great because as women age they can lose up to a pound of muscle each year. There are a few benefits to doing free weight excersices versus a machine. These weights give you the opportunity to maneuver more. You are not held back with any kind of constraints. When using these types of weights you are free to move in any direction you want.

Weight lifting machines can be very expensive. In comparison to machines, free weights are much cheaper. When you use lifting machines your workouts can become time consuming, especially when you have to adjust the weight and settings on the machine. Free weights allow you the ability to transition over to a different type of exercise with no hassle. This allows you to have more efficient workouts, targeting muscles that a machine just can't. The range of motion that these types of weights can give allows you to work muscle groups in a way that machines just can't, which can give you a more effective workout.

Free weights also allow you the versatility of working indoors or outdoors. With these weights you can take your workout to the beach, the park or any other place that you choose. These weights allow you the flexibility to avoid a boring workout and a weight machine does not allow that level of flexibility. There are so many benefits to free weight training, however they should be handled with care. Accidents like dropping the weights on your foot, not paying attention to your surroundings or other injuries are possible when you use any type of equipment unwisely.

Improved fitness levels helps your mood, self esteem and the way you interact with others. Feeling good about yourself helps to improve almost every area of your life. When you weight train you should remember to include healthy eating habits. Healthy eating habits will give you the nutrients and energy to maintain productive and effective workouts.
